Meet Cirus Sumika

Background and Early Life

Cirus Sumika was born on October 28, 1998, in Entebbe, Kampala, Uganda. From a young age, he demonstrated a keen interest in technology and entrepreneurship. At the age of 12, while in Primary Six in 2010, Cirus began working at his mother’s shop at the Kasenyi Landing Site in Entebbe. There, he learned valuable lessons in customer service, sales, and business management. He continued working with his mother for over eight years, gaining practical experience that would shape his future endeavors.

By the age of 16, Cirus had opened his first bank account at the Bank of Africa, showcasing his financial prudence by saving his remaining pocket money at the end of each school term. His determination and ambition were further fueled by reading Forbes Magazine and learning from his role model, Mark Zuckerberg.

Education

Cirus Sumika has a strong academic foundation complemented by extensive leadership experience and internationally recognized professional certifications.

His formal education journey began at Nkumba Christian Primary School, where he studied from 2004 to 2011.
He later attended St. Kizito Senior Secondary School Kabowa from 2012 to 2017, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and active participation in student governance and co-curricular activities.

During his time at St. Kizito S.S. Kabowa, he held several leadership roles, including:

  • Class Captain
  • Assistant Time Keeper
  • Assistant Head Prefect
  • President, Writers Club
  • President, Debaters Club
  • President, Pro-Life Club
  • Head of the Laity, St. Kizito Catholic Community
  • Head Prefect

These roles contributed significantly to shaping his leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Cirus pursued higher education at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) from 2018 to 2021, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Computing.

While at MUBS, he was elected Guild Representative Councillor (GRC) for two consecutive terms (2018–2019 and 2019–2020), both times unopposed. He also served as President of the Students Information and Computing Association (SICA) from 2020 to 2021, further strengthening his leadership profile and engagement in technology-focused student initiatives.

In addition to his formal education, Cirus has pursued international certifications aligned with global trade, digital economy, and cross-cultural engagement:

    Issued by ITC SME Trade Academy (October 2025)
    Focus areas: Cross-cultural communication, Chinese business culture, international trade engagement.

    Focus areas: E-commerce policy, strategic negotiations, and global digital trade frameworks.

Career

Cirus Sumika’s professional journey began with internships that Provided foundational experiences in the business and tech sectors. He interned at KPMG in the Advisory department as an accounting clerk and later worked in the IT Department of Platinum Tours and Travels Agencies Ltd.

In 2019, during his first year at the university, Cirus founded a hostel booking system called My Hostel Place. This application aimed to digitize university accommodation bookings. However, the project was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the closure of hostels and educational institutions. However, Sumic IT Solutions Ltd had been registered as a holding Company there by pivoting from the accommodation sector to e-commerce, he launched Sumic Online with company in 2021, a B2B2C platform that forges unprecedented connections between businesses, suppliers, manufacturers, and consumers.

Currently, Cirus serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Sumic IT Solutions Ltd where his vision and leadership have propelled the company to notable achievements and recognitions in the East African tech landscape.

Leadership

Cirus Sumika is a purpose-driven leader whose leadership spans education, entrepreneurship, technology, and ecosystem development, with a strong focus on impact, institution building, and people development.

His leadership journey began early at St. Kizito Senior Secondary School Kabowa, where he held multiple student leadership positions. In these roles, he contributed to student governance, led academic and values-based clubs, and fostered a culture of responsibility, discipline, and collaboration among students.

At Makerere University Business School, Cirus’s leadership matured further. He was elected Guild Representative Councilor (GRC) for two consecutive terms, both times unopposed, demonstrating strong confidence and trust from the student body. He later served as President of the Students Information and Computing Association (SICA), where he led technology focused initiatives, strengthened peer collaboration, and represented the interests of computing and ICT students.

Beyond academia, Cirus is the Founder and CEO of Sumic IT Solutions Ltd, a technology and digital transformation company driving innovation for startups, SMEs, and institutions across Africa, Asia, and Europe. Under his leadership, the company has grown into a multi-solution organization delivering software development, digital transformation, capacity building, and cross-border technology collaborations.

He is also the Founder of Sumic International Academy, the learning and capacity-building arm of the Sumic Group. Through this institution, he leads structured programs focused on equipping youth and professionals with practical skills in technology, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry needs.

In addition, Cirus serves as a member of the Private Sector Advisory Group under the Digital for Development Hub (D4D Hub), where he contributes private-sector leadership perspectives to inform inclusive digital development, policy dialogue, and public–private collaboration.

Other Responsibilities

In addition to his entrepreneurial and leadership work, Cirus Sumika is deeply committed to capacity building, mentorship, and digital ecosystem development.

He is the Founder of Sumic International Academy, a learning and capacity-building initiative focused on equipping youth, professionals, and entrepreneurs with practical, industry-ready skills in technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

Cirus is also a member of the Private Sector Advisory Group under the Digital for Development Hub (D4D Hub), where he contributes private-sector perspectives to support inclusive digital development, policy dialogue, and collaboration between public and private stakeholders.

Previously, Cirus served as a mentor under the Stanford Entrepreneurship Program, where he supported aspiring entrepreneurs and refugees across Africa in refining business ideas, strengthening business models, and fostering innovation.

He has also previously worked as a facilitator at Link Space Career Academy, delivering sessions in Finance Education, Technology, and digital skills development through online learning platforms.

Beyond his professional engagements, Cirus is an avid chess player, reflecting his strategic thinking, analytical mindset, and competitive discipline.
